I am a single, dynamic vortex that dissolves into a complex, flowing cycle.
Astrida Neimanis: „Hydrofeminism: Or, On Becoming a Body of Water“

Isabella Oberländer from Limerick, Ireland, will be working on the project “Bodies of Water” (working title) at the Tanztendenz studios from October 14 to 26, 2025, as part of an exchange with Tipperary Dance/Ireland. British choreographer Lucy Suggate will play a key role in the work process as an outside eye, as will composer Ellen King. The residency will culminate in a public showing on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.

How can dance's capacity for action be expanded in the context of the increasing complexities of our 21st century - for example, in relation to ecology, equality, and global networking? I.O.

This is a question that Isabella Oberländer continually explores in her own artistic practice. Oberländer is particularly interested in hydrofeminism, i.e., the connection between humans and other living beings through water. It flows through bodies, living beings, and materials, connecting them. During this water cycle, we pick up or leave traces that are often invisible to us, for example, when we take a sip of water.

How can we create a queer feminist source? What might it look like? (...) How can we as artists extend invitations, hold spaces, and create structures that promote solidarity and questioning - both with our collaborators and with the audience? I.O.

Isabella Oberländer has already addressed these themes in an initial research project funded by the Irish Arts Council and now wishes to expand the working processes in order to develop a solo performance.

Isabella Oberländer's residency is part of an exchange between Tanztendenz München and Tipperary Dance Ireland. This cooperation has been very successful and ongoing since 2022. It was initiated in October 2021 with Moritz Ostruschnjak's invitation to Tipperary with his piece “Tanzanweisungen” (Dance Instructions). Since then, there has been a lively exchange and reciprocal residencies.
